Allen & Ginter Cigarettes issued its 50-card American Indian Chiefs set in 1888. Each card measures 1-1/2” x 2-3/4” with a striking, full color lithographic image of a different Native American leader. Card backs have the cigarette company’s name and logo, and a checklist. The unnumbered set is anchored by Geronimo and Sitting Bull. Four of the cards were initially released with the chief misidentified and are considered quite rare. The N2 Allen & Ginter American Indian Chiefs set is the most well known of the early Indian Issues, and one of the most universally treasured 19th Century tobacco insert card series ever produced.
